In 1 Samuel 16, Saul “loved him [David] greatly,” (v. 21) making him his armor-bearer and harpist.
In 1 Samuel 17, Saul asks David, “Whose son are you, young man?” (v. 58)
Before you think God contradicts himself here, don’t give up on this story. Not only are there good answers to how this goes together, but there are potential deep and profound truths I believe God may be wanting us to see in this.
